T.B. HOSPITAL

PLANS FOR PAEKAKARIKI Hope that the erection of a tuberculosis hospital at Paekakariki would not be long delayed was expressed by the chairman of the Wellington Hospital Board, Mr. F. Castle, at the monthly meeting of the board, when it was decided that the purchase of the site for the hospital should be completed as soon as Ministerial approval was obtained. Mr. Castle said that the board ali'eady had 250 patients ready to go into the hospital. The North Island was lacking in accommodation for tuberculosis cases, and the new hospital would enable the Wellington board to deal with its own patients, thus giving relief elsewhere. Mr. Castle expressed the opinion that the building should be of comparatively light construction. A block designed to last 100 or even 60 years should not be considered, he said. Medical science was changing so rapidly that to-day’s ideals of construction might be obsolete in 10 or 15 years.
