SWEEPS OVER FRANCE

BRITISH FIGHTERS COASTAL SHIPS FIRED (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 2.15 p.m. RUGBY, Oct. 31. An Air Ministry communique states: “A number of offensive sweeps by patrols have been carried out over northern France and the Channel today. In the course of these, attacks were made on an electricity transformer station, factory buildings, railway communications and canal barges. Three small coastal vessels were also attacked and left on fire. Two of our fighters are missing. It is stated in London that shortly before dark British fighters shot down an enemy bomber into the sea' off the east coast. A communique issued by the Air Ministry and Ministry of Home Security .states that a single enemy aircraft flew over the north of England in daylight to-day. No bombs were dropped.
