WAIROA BULL FAIR PRICES REACH 50GNS MANY BUYERS ATTEND (Herald Correspondent.) Pur ihasers from many parts of Hawke's Bay and the Gisborne district attended the second annual bull sale in Wairoa yesterday, when the offering comprised stud and run Hereford and Aberdeen Angus bulls. Messrs. H. Bayly and T. W. G. Tombleson each offered a prize for the best three-year-old bull in each class. As a result of the judging in the morning, by Mr. Jasper Herrick, Waipukurau, in the Hereford section Mr. T. leC. Powdrell, Turiroa, was awarded the eup, second and fifth prizes, the third going to Mr. R. E. Jefferson, Turiroa, and the fourth to Mr. H. Harris, Hangaroa. In the Aberdeen Angus section the cup went to Mr. Charles Matthews, Te Ruanui, and the other awards were: Mr. Humphry Bayly. 2,3, 4 and 5. In all, 42 Aberdeen Angus bulls were sold at an average price of 24jgns. The highest price was 50gns. for Mr. Humphry Bayly’s David of Cricklewood, third in the judging, sired by Headwind of Akitio, and bought by Mr. T. A. Denton, while the same vendor’s Dapper of Cricklewood, fifth in the judging, from the same sire, was sold to Mr. T. Mulcaster at 49Jgns. Mr. Bayly sold 10 bulls in all from 32 to 50gns., including two at 23 and 16gns. respectively, at an average price of 34Jgns. The next highest average price was secured by Mr. Charles Matthews, Gisborne, who sold 11 bulls from 20 to 43gns., the latter price being for the cup winner. This bull was Kilby of Te Ruanui, sired by C.M. of Turihaua and purchased by Opoho station. Mr. Matthews' sale average was 27gns. Bulls sold under the hammer by other Aberdeen Angus breeders were; —Mr. J. N. Mackay, five sold, 11 to 15gns.; Mr. R. S. Mackay, six sold, 12 to 20gns.Mr. R. E. Jefferson, six sold, 16 to 26gns.; Mr. R. J. Powdrell, three sold, 17 to 27gns, A bid of 60gns. was refused by Mr. R. E. Jefferson for a yearling bull. In the Hereford section only 11 bulls were sold. Mr. T. leC. Powdrell topped the market for his cup winner, sired by Alton 20, at 35gns., sold to Mr, M. R. Shaw. NEW ZEALAND PETROLEUM Progress made by New Zealand Petroleum Company, Limited, in sinking two wells at Morere, Hawke’s Bay, and at Midhirst, about 19 miles from New Plymouth, is reviewed by the directors of Taranaki (N.Z.) Oil Fields, N.L., in their annual report. Taranaki Oil Fields has the right directly and through its subsidiaries to receive royalty on oil won from areas in New Zealand to New Zealand Petroleum Company, Limited. Directors state that the Midhirßt three shallow oil wells maintain a constant flow of high-grade oil averaging about 60 barrels a week. Total output from the Nos. 1,2 and 4 wells of Moturoa Oil Fields, Limited, to June 30 was 42,112 barrels. Latest accounts show a debit balance for the year to April 30 of £412, which is transferred to general development accounts, increasing it t.o £206,439.
