RANGE SHOOTING
MUSKETRY PROGRAMMES TWO WEEK-END SHOOTS The open-air range shooting season will be inaugurated in earnest during the coming week-end, when the Mangapapa range will be occupied by the National Military Reserve Company and combatant sections of the Headquarters Company, Gisborne Battalion of the Home Guard. A third group also was to have used the range this week-end, this being the Gisborne Miniature Rifle Club, but to avoid congestion the club has postponed its shoot until a later date. The club competition will be the first openair fixture organised under its auspices, and visitors from Kopuar whara and other areas are expected to take part. Musketry courses for home-defence units will be fired throughout the summer, and these will include the National Military Reserve Company, the Independent Mounted Rifles Squadron, and various Home Guard units. Territorial shoots probably will be fired at ranges in the various camps during the intensive training periods, and this will relieve pressure on the local ranges.
