TAUPO LAKE GATES OPEN
Following the opening of: all the river control gates at Taupo after some of them had been closed for the past fortnight, the Waikato River has reached a level stated by those familiar with its fluctuations to be a record height. This has resulted not only in the main highway skirting the edge of the lake being endangered and in some places flooded, but it is' expected by fishermen to have a serious \ effect on the trout fishing when the season opens on Saturday.
