OBITUARY

MR. GEO. JOBSON TE ARAI RESIDENT The death occurred at “Scotswood,” Te Arai Valley, on Wednesday of Mr. George Dixon Jobson, one of the bestknown and most highly respected farmers in the Gisborne district, lie had been in poor health for some and had been sinking gradually. For over GO years he had been a resident of the valley, with the exception of a few years spent in MidCanterbury, and though of a quiet and retiring disposition, he had a host of friends throughout the Gisborne district.

His birthplace was Scotswood, Northumberland, and he was brought to Gisborne in 1880 at the age of four years. His father was the late Mr. William Jobson, who, with Mrs. Jobson, was so long known and respected, their home at Rapanui being one of the most hospitable to be found anywhere. When in later years he established his own property, he gave it the name of his family home in Scotland, and there, too, the spirit of hospitality was always warmly present.

Always known as an enthusiastic sportsman, Mr. Jobson owned several racehorses at various times, and had some success on the turf. liis principal interest was in his farming operations, however, and in this he was particularly successful, his advice being frequently sought. Mr. Jobson will be greatly missed from the circles in which he formerly moved, and in which his wife, who died two years ago, was equally popular. Deep sympathy will be extended to Mr. Jobson’s one daughter, Miss Margaret Jobson, in her bereavement.
