FATAL CRASH
CYCLIST KILLED MR. GEORGE A. HOLMES A collision which occurred in Wainui road early this afternoon between a car and a cyclist, resulted in the death of the cyclist and injuries to the driver of the car. The victims were:— Killed Mr. George A. Holmes, aged 71, married, a tailor, McLean street: Injured Mr. G. W. Alexander, manager of the Gisborne branch of the Odlin Timber and Hardware Company. Gisborne. The collision occurred near ihe approach to the Bladslone road bridge, in Wainui road, when Mr. Holmes was cycling away from the bridge. The car. which was overtaking him. carried Mr. Holmes and his cycle on to the footpath, and apparently he was killed instantaneously. Mr. Holmes was well known throughout the district, having been in the tailoring business for many years. Ke was formerly a prominent oarsman and athlete, and, his sons also have been prominent in rowing, swimming and football.
