BRITAIN RIDING FLOOD REFUGE OF FREE MEN LONDON, Aug. 17. Miss Dorothy Thompson, the wellknown American publicist, giving a broadcast farewell to the British people, said Britain seemed to her to be a modern Noah’s Ark riding a great flood with members of the species of all free men secure between her Sides. She continued: “This last week your Prime Minister and my President met together in what was surely a most historic meeting. They proposed eight points for a world order compatible with the yearning of all peoples for freedom and the need of all men for bread and for economic security. “But the hope of attaining these things, which are the description of real peace, rests upon your country and mine continuing tc make a common foreign policy, common defence and a common financial and economic programme. No governments can guarantee that this will continue in war and in peace. Omy you and I can guarantee it—all of us in both countries. Aim of German War Lords "I know also that the recurrent German dream has to be blotted out of history once and for all if ever we are to have peace. That dream did not originate with Hitler or with national socialism. Nazism is instead merely a smoke screen, a fake revolution behind which the German war lords are prepared to make that dream a reality. That dream is to make a new Rome, a new vast land and sea empire that will eventually embrace the earth—an earth in which there will be Germans and lesser breeds of various gradations. And there is a clear, realistic programme for realising such a planetary empire. “Therefore ,and in very truth, Britain's light is to fight for world liberation. In the darkest days that you have suffered and«-the dark ones that I fear will come again, hope must sustain you. ou are truly in, this hour the history and hope of the world. And Mr. Churchill must have realised this fully when he cried that this is Britain’s greatest hour. "And so I go home to my people to continue to write about the nature of this epochal struggle, about the greatness of the British people and the British cause and about the grandeur of the destiny that puts the sword of liberation into the hands of the English-speaking peoples of the world.”
