MINOR RUGBY GAMES OLD BOYS DO WELL PATRIOTIC MATCH The fourth and fifth grade Rugby competitions were declared closed and the Old Hoys A team were announced as the winners ot the fourth ttrade competition ami High School Rectory the winners of the film tirade competition at last night's fortnightly meeting of the management committee oi the Poverty Bay Rugby Union. The final Rugby competition flame- for this season will he played on Saturday, August 30, when Marjst and Old Boys senior teams will meet to contest the final of the Premier Cui> competition. it was stated that the Old Boys dill) teams had done extremely well this season, the senior Old Boys team winning the senior competition, the junior team winning the junior competition and the junior knock-out competition and the fourth grade team winning the fourili grade c 0... petition. The senior team also will lit- playinn in the final of the Premier Cup competition. A letter was received from the Nuhaka Football Club, which plays in the Wairoa competition, stating that their competition games were finished and asking for a match against the winning Poverty Bay team in the senior competition. The committee decided to refer the letter to the Old Boys club and stated that a match could be arranged in Gisborne for September G. Congratulations from the union were extended to the Gisborne High School A team on their win against the Napier and Hastings High School teams in Gisborne re jenciy. School Sports on Oval Application for the use of the Oval on September 19 was made by the district primary schools to enable them to hold thenannual sports. A sub-committee of the union was appointed to interview the Poverty liny Cricket. Association in connection with this matter, as in the near future the Cricket Association would begin preparing the Oval for the cricket season. In the meantime,, permission was granted to the schools for the use of the Oval on September 19. A communication was received from the Bay of Plenty Rugby Union requesting a representative match in Whukntnue. The committee decided to reply that owing (o the shortage of players a team could not travel to Whakatane this year to contest the annual fixture. The patriotic match, old All Blacks and outside representatives v. old Poverty Bay representatives, is to be played on Saturday, commencing at 2.15 p.m. As a curtainraiser the committee has arranged a friendly match between Old Boys and Coptic juniors. This match will commence at 1.15 p.m. Both of the teams which will he playing in the main match will assemble at the Gisborne i-totel at 2 p.m. and a reunion dinner will be held at the hotel after the match. It wits announced that boots were required by several of the players and it was hoped that three pairs of size In hoots and two pairs of size nine hoots would he loaned lo players for the match. Anyone willing to loan hoots is asked to take them to l-'itzmaurice and Butler's shop. Those present at the meeting were Messrs. G. H. Scents, chairman, P. C. Edmondson, W. H. James, M. If. Beuth, G. .1. Jeune, IS. Airey, A. Toye, J. Gray, and the secretary, Mr. W. S. McKee.
