BAN ON WODEHOUSE
SOUTHPORT LIBRARY , BOOKS WASTE PAPER LONDON, Aug. 13. Ninety copies of P. G. Wodenouses books, withdrawn from the Southport (Lancashire) municipal libraries, are to be sold as waste paper for pulping. The Southport Council ordered this when it decided to withdraw all Wodehouse’s books from the municipal libraries, because of his radio talks from Germany. Portdown (Ulster) Council banned Wodehouse’s books from its libraries three weeks ago. Wodehouse, who was captured when the Germans overran Northern France last year, Was released from an internment camp in Upper Silesia on June 26 this year, and took up residence at the luxurious Adlon Hotel in Berlin. . He has been caustically criticised in Britain and the United States for the tone and the matter of his radio talks from Berlin. The German Propaganda Ministry insists that Wodehouse is under no compulsion to broadcast.
