GERMANS ON STRIKE
SEQUEL TO BOMBINGS PROTECTION WANTED LONDON, Aug. 4. German workers went on strike at Hamburg and Kiel shipyards because of insufficient protection from Royal Air Force raids. This is reported by a neutral correspondent who was in Hamburg and Kiel at the end of July. The correspondent says that when German troops tried to quell disturbances at the shipyards the workers hurled rivets at them and shouted: “We demand better protection.” He adds: “Britain's biggest bombs are causing terror and destruction throughout Germany. Each bomb wrecks five or six buildings. It makes a terrifying noise when hurtling through the air. “The deathroll from bombings at Hamburg is enormous. The port has suffered most, but great damage has been done to the city. “An official notice published in Munster newspapers shows that the Royal Air Force raids have terrified a large part of the population into abandoning work and fleeing the city.”
