DRILL HALL PROJECT CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CONFERENCE PROSPECTS At the monthly meeting of the Gisborne Chamber of Commerce yesterday afternoon, thanks were extended to Mr. T. A. N. Corson, Mr. D. W. Coleman, M.P., and Mr. F. H. Forge, for the parts they played in securing the promise of the early erection of the drill hall in Gisborne. The president, Mr. L. Miles, said it was hoped to have the hall ready for use within six months, and the chamber was greatly indebted to the active interest taken by Mr. Corson in the matter. Mr, Corson had spared no effort in bringing the issue to a successful conclusion and had made several trips to Wellington. The chamber passed the following motion:—“That this chamber places on record its very great appreciation of the services of Mr. T. A. N. Corson in his successful effort to secure the re-erection of the drill hall at Gisborne. Mr. Corson, at considerable inconvenience and expense to himself, displayed a high sense of citizenship in securing this valuable addition to the amenities of the town and has earned the gratitude of not only the members of this chamber but of the whole community, both town and country. The chamber further desires to place on record its appreciation of the services, over a considerable period, of the district member of Parliament, Mr. D. W. Coleman, in the same connection.” In seconding the motion, Mr. L. T. Burnard said that Mr. Corson, carried on the negotiations with considerable tenacity and tact. Mr. Miles said thanks also were due to Mr. F. H. Forge, who drew the plans and put in a great deal of work in connection with the matter.. Mr. Forge started the plans on his own initiative and without any thought of monetary benefit to himself, for he believed that the Public Works Department would have carried out the comConfcrcncc Delegates On the motion of Mr. Corson, the chamber agreed that if at all. possible the president or the acting-secretary should represent the chamber at the annual conference of the Associated Chambers in Invercargill on November 5 and 6 and that a grant be made to the expenses of the trip. Major J. W. Bain, secretary of the chamber, who returned recently from the Middle East, wrote in reply to the chamber’s good wishes in regard to his health, and stated that he looked forward to renewing acquaintance with the members, although it might be some months before he would be fit enough to go into harness again. Mr. F. Wise was asked to represent the chamber on the petrol advisory committee. Mr. G. R. Horsborough submitted his resignation prior to taking up his residence in New Plymouth. The chamber accepted the resignation with regret and wished Mr. Horsborough success in his new town. Those present at the meeting were Mr. L. Miles, president, Messrs.,H. H. ' De Costa, T. A. N. Corson, F. Tolerton, W. E. Mcllwaine, Jas. Chrisp, K. W. Bull, H. R. Kendon, I. J. Quigley, R. G. Clare, J. C. Graham, J. W. Fergie, L. T. Burnard, M. F. Robinson, and the acting secretary, Mr. M. J. White.
