MR. CHURCHILL HOME PLAN FOR BROADCAST (Reed. Aug. 19, noon.) LONDON, Aug. 18. It is officially stated that the Prime Minister, Mr. Winston Churchill, and has party have returned safely to Britain aboard the battleship Prince of Wales, following the mid-ocean conference with President Roosevelt. While returning home Mr. Churchill, accompanied by the service chiefs who participated in the discussions, visited Iceland and inspected British and American troops stationed on the island. This accounted for the delay on the return trip. Arrangements are being made for Mr. Churchill to broadcast probably on August 24, to the people of Britain and the Empire, when he will give a full personal account of his talks with Mr. Roosevelt. . .Mr., Churchill began the journey by train from London to a British port where he boarded a destroyer. The naval personnel and others at the port were, sworn to secrecy. None of them knew where the Prime Minister was going. Transfers at Sea Mr. Churchill stood on the bridge of the destroyer when the vessel put to sea. There he transferred to the flagship, King George V, where he was received by the Commander-in-Chief, Admiral J. E. Tovey. The Prime Minister lunched in the flagship and afterwards transferred, to the Prince of Wales for the voyage across the Atlantic. Destroyers of the Home Fleet escorted the Prince of Wales on the outward voyage. Other destroyers went out to escort her on the homeward voyage. The arrangements were kept so secret that the officers and ships’ •companies in many units of the Home Fleet had no idea who was aboard. Ten distinguished persons -journeyed to America with Mr. Churchill, including his personal assistant, Lord Cherwell.
