ANNUAL FLOWER DAY INFANT-CARE CLASSES Several matters relating to the care of mothers and children were discussed at the monthly meeting of the executive of the Poverty Bay Plunket Society yesterday. The. annual flower day effort, the institution of further instruction classes in infant welfare, and a review of the hours of attendance at the Plunket rooms were included among the topics. Those present were Mesdames J. Blair, president, A. M. Robertson. Gordon Jones, R. E. Gambrill, B. Dallas. H. 11. De Costa, D. E. Chrisp, H. Bennett, C. L. Fogden, J. S. Wauchop, V. S. Caulton, K. G. Crarer, T. A. N. Corson, H. L. Primrose, E. L. Adams. A. M. Welham and D. Kinder, and Miss D. Bagnall, hon. secretary. It was decided that the annual sale of flowers for the Plunket Society funds be held on August 29, and preliminary arrangements were made for 'he enlistment of sellers and other assistants. The meeting warmly endorsed the value of classes in infant welfare, recently introduced for the qualification of Plunket aids, as an emergency precaution, and approved the commencement of a further class on September 10. The president and secretary referred to the considerable amount of correspondence which the society’s nurse? have to deal with, and recommended that the rooms be closed to callers or: Saturday mornings, in order that this a rrespondence might be dealt with as far as possible, without encroaching upon the private time of the staff. It was reported that 450 babies were under - supervision by the society’s staff, together with 194 children of pre-school age. During the month 25 new babies had been listed. Country'and Coast consultations were reported as follows: Tolaga Bay, 17 home visits and 80 office calls; Mangatuna, three home visits: Tokomaru Bay, one home visit and 17 office calls: Muriwai. eight home visits and 32 office calls; Manutuke, 15 home visit-, and 27 office calls; Te Karaka, two home visits and 31 office calls.
