ADVICE TO “V ARMY”
HIDE CROPS FROM NAZIS GOEBBELS PERPLEXED LONDON, Aug. 10. Colonel Britten, broadcasting to the “V Army” in German-occupied territories, said to the farmers: “You are getting your harvests in. The Germans want to get their hands on your crops. There are ways you can keep your crops hidden. I expect you know what they are. “I just want to remind you that in a few weeks’ time, German agents will be coming round demanding to know what you have got and offering you paper money in exchange. You will know what to do. “Another thing is to get all the credit you can and buy with the money. Again, many of you have insurance policies. You probably know insurance companies get rich by relying on people not to make small claims. “Nearly all the insurance companies are now directly controlled by the Germans. So every time you burn a hole in your carpet or lose a watch or a brooch or break china, don’t forget to claim. Those of you who can’t do these things write up your ‘V’s’ again. Goebbels is still in a state of dither about the ‘V’s’. He still can’t decide whether the ‘V’ really stands for sieg heil or for the victory of freedom.”
