No Increase Made
Advice was received by the Hawke's Bay Education Board in Napier on Friday that the department was not making any increased grant m school committees this year. Mr. H. A. Maddison, chairman, stated that (he estimates this year for allowances was £IBI,OOO, which represented an increase on last year’s estimate of £5009. However, £4322 of this amount was swallowed by the increased cost of living allowance. “I do not know how the schools will carry on.” he added, in suggesting the curtailment of capital expenditure in ;chopl? to provide adequately for the dr; of schools in the maintenance direction.
