LEADER OF SCOUTS
DEATH AT 88 YEARS MAJOR F. W. SANDFORD (Per Press Association.) NEW PLYMOUTH, this day. The death of Major Frederick William Sandford, former Boy Scout Commissioner for New Zealand, occurred at New Plymouth yesterday at the age of 88 years. Major Sandford was prominent in the foundation of the Scout movement in the Dominion and made two visits to Britain in charge of Scouts to jamborees. He was a close friend of the late Lord Baden Powell.
