ROYAL CONCERT
PRINCESSES PERFORM LONDON, July 29. Princess Elizabeth produced her first stage show recently. It was a concert to raise money for the wool fund which she and her sister, Princess Margaret, organised. All kinds of knitted garments for the Services have been made, but funds were getting low. So the Princesses, decided to put on a concert. The audience included the King and Queen and the Duchess of Kent. The Princesses sang a duet in French, and then as an encore gave a double tap dance. Other items they contributed included a minuet and solos on the piano. Princess Margaret scored a big hit-with an Irish jig. They concluded their numbers with the popular song “There’ll Always Be An England,” which was encored several times. A collection was made for the wool fund, and Princess. Elizabeth announced that £BO had been subscribed. Princess Elizabeth danced with Guards officers and other guests of the King and Queen at a private ball which her parents gave recently. She is 15, and it was her first appearance in a long “party” frock. A famous West End dance band played foxtrots, waltzes and rumbas, and dancing went on until two in the morning. The King and Queen themselves joined, the dancers, and several times Princess Elizabeth danced with her father. It was after midnight when the Princess left the floor.
