Reed. 2 p.m. RUGBY, Aug. 17. “Last night,” states the Air Ministry, “considerable forces of the Bomber Command resumed the offensive against factories and railways in the and Ruhr. ‘ln each of the great industrial centres, Cologne, Dusseldorf and Duisberg, which were heavily bombed, factories were left burning, and in each town great fires were made the aiming point for •powerful highexplosive bombs." Although the weather was bad, the forces which attacked the Rhineland and the Ruhr were considerable. One ol our bombers destroyed an enemy fighter. Thirteen British bombers arc missing. During the week ended at dawn on Sunday. Britain lost 53 bombers and 18 fighters. The Luftwaffe lost 38 fighters, and over Britain, where the Nazis carried out only token raids, they iost one bomber. In the Mediterranean, Britain lost five machines and the Axis six.
