METAL LIMB NEEDED
R.A.F. LEGLESS PILOT NAZIS AID DESPATCH (Reed. Aug. 18, 9 a.m.) LONDON, Aug. 17. The Lutwaffe has sent a message to the R.A.F. through the Red Cross offering to allow a Briton to fly across the Channel with a new metal leg for Wing-Commander D. R. S. Bader, the British legless pilot, who has been taken prisoner, says the Daily Express. There are several spare legs belonging to Wing-Commander Bader at an air station in South England from which he led his wing of fighters. The offer has been accepted and the leg will probably be dropped by parachute over German-occupied territory. There is considerable competition at Bader’s station for the job of delivering the leg.
