U.S. ARMY WARNED
.BE READY TO FIGHT AXIS THRUST DANGER SOUTH AMERICAN ZONES (Elec. Tel Copyright-—United Press Assn.) (Reed .Aug. 18, 10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, Aug. 17. The United States Army must be prepared to fight on the ice-bound coasts of tiie North Atlantic and the North Pacific as well as in the tropic heat of Panama, said the Secretary oi State, Mr. 11. L. Stimson. in a broadcast to soldiers. At present the greatest danger was in Central and South America. If, by combining air attack with a fifth column revolution, an Axis Power succeeded in gaining a hold in South America, the United States would have a real. task. American soldiers were already standing guard on the east from Iceland to British Guiana on the west, and from Alaska to Panama. The Germans were now going into battle with their song: “To-day Europe is ours; tomorrow the whole world. ’ “We therefore ask army service men to give us patriotic devotion, faith and spirit which made the American armies unconquerable," he added.
