FALL OFF WHARF

BOY’S NARROW ESCAPE A narrow escape from drowning was experienced by Norman Blenkin, aged 14, a schoolboy, when he was knocked unconscious into the harbour at Auckland. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. N. Blenkin. The boy, in company with another lad, was playing Ori the Orakei wharf and was apparently struck on the face by a winch and forced back into the water. Fortunately his plight was observed from the, shore by Miss B. Stairmand, who dived ftilly clothed to his rescue. When she reached the lad he was unconscious under the water bleeding profusely from a cut on the race. Miss Sairmaml managed to hold him up dntil help arrived. On reaching shore artificial respiration was applied and a passing motorist took the boy to the Auckland Hospital suffering from concussion. His condition was not serious.
