AUSTRALIAN FORCES BIGGEST CONVOY YET DETERMINED DEFENCE (Elcc. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (British Oflicinl Wireless.) Reed. 1 p.m. RUGBY. Aug. 15. The largest convoy in history is reported to have arrived at Singapore carrying thousands of troops representing infantry, artillery, service corps, engineers, and ambulance units There are also Bren gun carriers, antitank guns and motor transport. Informed quarters in Singapore comment that, these men are a token of Australia’s determination to treat Singapore as the first line of defence and the arming of Britain and Australia with Allies in the Pacific is committed to the inflexible policy of resisting any attempt on the part of any Power to interfere with the freedom of the peoples living in this area.
