THREE N.Z. AIRMEN NIGHT FIGHTERS’ FEATS (Reed. Aug. 16, 10 a.m.) LONDON. Aug. 15. Two members of the Royal New Zealand Air Force. Sergeant R. J. C. Grant and Sergeant William Jack Scott, have been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. The citations state: “Sergeant Grant has taken part in 22 operations over enemy territory, in which he has destroyed two enemy planes and damaged several others. His keenness and devotion to duty have set an excellent example.” “A Royal Air Force flight-lieutenant and Sergeant Scott, as pilot and air gunner respectively, have achieved conspicuous success during night fighting operations. One night in April they destroyed a Heinkel 111. Since then they have destroyed three more enemy planes, two of which were shot down during the same patrol. Both the pilot and Sergeant Scott displayed great skill and determination during these operations.” ■The New Zealander, Acting-Squadron-Leader Victor Bosanquet Verity, has also been awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross. The citation states: “Acting-Squadron-Leader Verity has shown *a fine example by the skill with which he has intercepted enemy planes at night time and the determination displayed in his attacks. He has destroyed at least two enemy planes and damaged two others.”
