FLOGGING REMITTED
MT. EDEN ESCAPEES ABOLITION PROPOSED (Parliamentary Reporter.) WELLINGTON, this day. The flogging sentence on the four Auckland prisoners who assaulted the warders in the course of a successful attempt to escape from Mount Eden Gaol has been remitted, according to a statement made this morning by tiic Attorney-General, the Hon. I-I. G. R Mason. He said that the Governor-General,. Sir Cyril Newall, had signed a remission order on the advice of the Ministry. The Attorney-General added that legislation was now in course of preparation for the abolition oi flogging in the Dominion.
