OIL EXPLORATION
DRILLING PROGRESS Steady progress with drilling at both the Morere and Midhirst wellsites is indicated in the fortnightly bulletin of the New Zealand Petroleum Company, Limited, the text of which is as under: —• “Morere No. 1 Well. —Depth 5722 ft. in very hard, slightly sandy, siliceous shale.
“Midhirst No. 1 Well. —Depth 7900 ft, in hard shale.”
At the date of the last bulletin, the depth at Morere was 5805 ft., and that at Midhirst was 7690 ft. There has been no substantial change in the strata at either drilling site in recent weeks.
