Soldiers on Leave
In making a statement to-day regarding the return of soldiers to camp following leave, the town clerk, Mr. vj, m. Jenkins, stated that he had only 'list learned that a small party left Gisborne early this morning. He regretted that' no official farewell was possible, because the date of departure was not known. It was difficult sometimes, particularly with small parties of men, to learn when a draft was going back to camp, for the movements of the men on leave were not known officially by the Gisborne office of the Army Department. It was the custom to tender an official function to all men returning to camp, and it was regretted that the function was missed on this occasion. An endeavour would be made to secure definite information regarding troops so that tne usua - arrangements could be continued.
