WOOLLEN COMFORTS
PROVISION FOR TROOPS AUGMENTING OF STOCKS (Pci- Press Association.) WELLINGTON, 'this day. Steps have ibeen taken by the National Patriotic Fund Board to augment stocks of woollen comforts held in the Middle East for winter use by New Zealand troops. Advice was received that the balance remaining from previous shipments comprised 7000 scarves, 12,600 pairs of mittens, and 1700 balaclavas. Since then, further consignments of woollen comforts, the work of the women of the Dominion as a whole, have been got together and forwarded from the board’s store in Wellington. Three separate consignments totalled 25,867 scarves, 26,938 pairs of mittens, and 26,941 balaclavas, 4 giving a grand total, taking into account the stocks held in Egypt, of 32,767 scarves, 39,538 pairs of mittens, and 28,641 balaclavas. As more knitted comforts come to hand and the opportunity occurs for despatch, they will be sent, the object being to build up stocks to about 40,000 of each class of goods. As a result of the splendid .response of the women, there is no lack of supplies, but the shipping difficulties tend to cause delay in despatch.
