OBITUARY

MRS. C. E. MAZENGARB The death in Wellington on Saturday of Mrs. Charlotte Elizabeth Mazengarb, relict of the late Mr. Isaac Mazengarb, removed one of the Gisborne district’s oldest settlers. Mrs. Mazengarb was born in England 89 years ago and as a young woman came to New Zealand 65 years ago. Later she married the late Mr. Isaac Mazengarb in Christchurch, the couple coming immediately to Gisborne, in which district Mrs. Mazengarb had been a resident for the past 62 years. Mr. and Mrs. Mazengarb bought a farm at Waerenga-a-hika. and this Mrs. Mazengarb carried on after the death of- her husband 40 years ago, coming to be known as one of the best settlers in the district. The deceased had been ailing for the past four years. To mourn their loss Mrs. Mazengarb leaves a family of four daughters, Mrs. G. Kent, Wairoa, Mrs. H. J. Jost, Westport, Mrs. A. J. Hodgson, Hastings, and Mrs. M. Crossin, Hastings. There are also three sons', Mr. A. Mazengarb, Morrinsville, Mr, B. Mazengarb, Matawai, and Mr J. C. Mazengarb, Waimata, as weii as 30 grandchildren and 19 great-grand-children. A service will be held in Cochrane's chapel, Williams street, at 10.30 a.m. on Thursday, prior to the funeral leaving for the Makaraka cemetery.
