FULFILMENT URGED

AID-TO-RUSSIA PLEDGE BRITISH LABOUR M.P. (British Official Wireless.) Reed. 9 a.m. RXJGBY, Aug. 10. Speaking to his constituents, Mr. Emanuel Shinwell (Lab., Seaham) said there was not the least doubt that the setbacks encountered by the Germans in Russia '‘may prove of greater assistance to our cause than anything we have received from all other sources since the war began.” He asked that the pledge to aid Russia be fulfilled—whether by persistent attacks, a diversion on the Western Front, or by attack on Italy. Referring to the recent criticism of the Government in ■ the House of Commons, Mr. Shinwell said that this was designed rather to give strength to the Prime Minister, Mr. Winston Churchill, than to weaken him. “It is folly to ignore the considerable and growing criticism of the Government’s policy, which is not so much directed against Mr. Churchill as against the personnel and the’ organisations of the Government as a whole,” he added.
