' FOUR U.S. TANKERS HIGH OCTANE PROBLEM (Reed. Aug. 9, 9 a.m.) ' ) ■ WASHINGTON. Aug. 8. The Secretary of the Interior, Mr. Harold L.lckes, announced yesterday that four American tankers had been transferred to export aviation petrol to Russia. He said there would be a shortage of high octane petrol unless the output was increased immediately. Petrol rationing on the east coast had not gone ahead. Despite widespread efforts to influence motorists to voluntarily curtail the consumption it had actually increased in the last fortnight.
