Underground Water Supply
With the recent decision to sink 3
test bore in the Square to ascertain the possibilities'of providing an emergency supply of water for fire-fighting purposes, the Palmerston North City Council has turned back in the history of the city-—to the days' before the installation of the water supply from Tiritea. In the years of the manual fire engine, when Palmerston North was served for its water by backyard wells and rain-water tanks, there were wells in the Square for use by the brigade should the occasion arise Normal recourse to the wells csasec, just before 1900.
