Millions of Tomato Plants
The tomato-growing section called for special reference, remarked Mrs. Knox Gilmer at the opening of the annual conference of the Dominion council of Commercial Growers, held in Wellington. There were 595 growers and a planted area of 590 acres. There? were 5.750.0(10 plants grown and 10,550 ions of tomatoes produced. manufacturers taking 3455 tons. In glasshouse tomato production there were 73G growers with 1737 glasshouses, holding U-million plants and producing 2614 tons of tomatoes. The approximate value of tomatoes produced commercially in New Zealnno was £460,000.
