OPERATIONS RESUMED
MORERE No. 1 OIL WELL PROGRESS AT MIDHURST Operations have been resumed at the Morere No. 1 oil well, while further progress has been made at Midhurst No. 1. The New Zealand Petroleum Company, Limited, submit the following report to-day:— “Morere No. 1 well.—Operations recommenced on June 10. Circulated to bottom of 9&in. casing at 5008 ft. .Midhirst No. 1 well.—Present depth, 7238 ft. Progress for fortnight, 223 ft.” The resumption of .operations at Morere follows a long interval during which there has been little activity to report. On January 31 the company’s report stated that the depth of the well was 5500 ft. and that endeavours were being made to free a stuck drillpipe. Recovery operations were in progress until early in May, when they were suspended owing to a breakage in the crankshaft of No. 1 engine. The report of a fortnight ago stated that the crankshaft was expected at an early date, and its arrival would enable operations to resume.
