WAR EFFORT
WHERE DOMINION FAILS OPer Press Association.) DUNEDIN, this day. Mr. R. S. Thompson, president of the Otago branch of the Farmers’ Union, ted at the annual conference to-day that the 40-hour week was one instance of how the Dominion was failing to put its full weight into the war effort. This was a war of production, and every machine should be producing 24 hours a clay for six days a week, otherwise we broke faith with our kin in the firing line. A subtle form of strike was operating by which fit men escaped their responsibility by adopting a “conchie” pose. These men should be put into camp on military pay or less to do all the chores for the fighting men.
