FOOD BUT NO ARMS
U.s. OFFER TO EIRE ACCEPTANCE AWAITED (Reed. June 2, 10 a.m.) WASHINGTON, June 1. President Roosevelt and the State Department are seriously considering the possibility that a Na'fei move toward Gibraltar through Spain may force the removal of the European terminus of the trans-Atlantic Clipper service from Portugal to Eire, says the United Press. This consideration has developed anxiety here in view of Eire’s delay in accepting President Roosevelt’s offer of £125,000 worth of food. It is learned that the Administration is determined to reject all requests from the Irish for arms instead of food. The President is following the policy of advancing war material only to tl|3 fighting democracies.
