U.S. OIL “DICTATOR”
MINISTER’S FUNCTIONS SUPPLIES FOR DEFENCE (Reed. June 2. 10.30 a.m.) HYDE PARK, June 1. President Roosevelt began implementing his national emergency proclamation by appointing the Secretary for the Interior, Mr. H. L. Ickes, the virtual dictator of the American oil industry. Mr. Ickes has been instructed to formulate a plan for ensuring that the supply of petroleum and its products will be accommodated to the needs of the nation and the national defence programme.
