BOMB-THROWING
MURIWAI EXERCISES (Herald Correspondent.) Practice in bomb-throwing was the principal exercise carried out by the Muriwai unit of the Home Guard on Saturday afternoon. Exercises were conducted in placing bombs on targets from set distances, every man’s efforts in the various exercises being carefully noted. It is the intention of the commander, Captain C. H. Williams, to select the most proficient men to act as bomb-throwers. Others will be concerned in the preparation, carrying and lighting to feed the throwers.
Physical exercises by Cpl. L. Ching, and rifle exercises by Cpls. W. Romminger and J. French also formed part of the afternoon’s work. Increasing numbers of men are joining the unit, while the enthusiasm is being maintained. With these factors the unit will certainly be one to be reckoned with in an emergency. The evening classes will be conducted as usual during the week at Bartletts and Muriwai and the next parade is called for Sunday next on the Muriwai parade ground.
