OBITUARY
MR. C. I:'.. WILL Well known for many years as the mail contractor and postmaster in charge of the post office at Waikolui, Mr. Charles Richard Will died last evening at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. A. Michie, Beach road, Kaiti. Born in Opotiki 58 years ago, Mr. Will came to the Gisborne district as i young man and spent nearly the last 40 years in the Te Karaka and Waikohu districts. At the age of 2G he married Miss Dorothy Elizabeth Hill in Te Karaka. To mourn their loss he leaves his wife and two sons, Messrs. J. and C. Will, Waikohu, and two daughters, Mrs. A. Michie and Mrs. E. Bell, Gisborne. There are also two grandchildren. A service will be held in Cochrane’s ,’hapel, Williams street, at 1.45 p.m. to-morrow, prior to the funeral leaving for the Taruheru cemetery.
The death has occurred of Mrs. Kate Johnstone, Auckland, in her ninety-first year. She had the distinction of being the first white child born in the Waitakerc Ranges district. Her father, Mr. Timothy Duane, was one of the first pit-sawyers of kauri timber used in the building of early Auckland dwellings and shops. Mrs. Johnstone lived in Auckland throughout her lifetime. She was married on April 13, 1874. to Mr. James Scott Johnstone, who died in 1939 in his ninety-fourth year.
