KILLED BY CAR
FATE OF PEDESTRIAN ACCIDENT NEAR TIRAU A fatal accident occurred at Pairere, Tirau, on Friday evening, when a pedestrian was knocked down by a motor car. The victim was:Mr. .Tames William Anderson, single, a farmer, of Pairere. Mr. Anderson, who was returning home along the Hinuera-Cambridge road, was killed instantly. Chairman of the Matamata County Council for over 25 years, Mr. Anderson was born at Mangere in 1870. He was educated at Mangere and the Auckland Grammar School. He took up farming and went to Hawke’s Bay, Where he. was' working manager on the Kereonc estate for 11 years, later moving to the Tirau district. For some years he was president of the Waikato and Thames Valley Agricultural and Pastoral Associations. He was also on the Thames Valley Electric-Power Board and the Waikato Hospital Board, and was president of the Tirau and Matamata Racing Clubs. In addition to being chairman of the Hall trustees, he also served on the No. 2 District Highways Council and on the executive of the New Zealand Counties Association. Mr. Anderson was a prominent Freemason, being a past master of Lodge Tirau.
