WARDENS ACTIVE
REDUCED LIGHTING DRIVE IN TOWN AREA DIRECT WARNING GIVEN With a view to ensuring compliance with the revised lighting regulations as they apply particularly to the business area of the town, wardens were active in Gisborne last evening in what is intended to be a final drive before prosecutions are launched. Takmg advantage of the late shopping night, wardens from the suburban districts were co-opted into service in town and notices weife delivered to all premises which wex-e open. These notices urge the importance of conforming to the reduced lighting requirements and set out in plain language what is necessary in order to comply with the regulations. Occupiers of shops and other premises are notified that this is “a final and definite wax-ning,” and are also advised of the penalties which are invited by disregard to the notice.
It is felt that business people, in particular, have been given a good deal of latitude in the mattei\ although it is recognised that they have been handicapped to some extent by the absence of precise instructions. Now that this has been l-emedied it is felt that action should be enfoi’ced and this it is intended to do.
In effect, seven days’ notice is given, because next week it is intended that a further survey of the town area should be made and that occupiers of premises who have not taken steps to comply with the x-egulations should be prosecuted without further notice.
