HOSTEL FOR TROOPS
BUILDING AT TAIHAPE CATERING FOR WAIOURU (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. Jones, announced to-day that the Government was making provision to erect a suitable building at Taihape in order that amenities for troops on short leave from Waiouru could be provided. Waiouru is the largest Territorial camp in New Zealand.
“The need for such facilities has been occasioned,” said Mr. Jones, “principally because of the situation of the camp. Although there has been provided within the camp recreational and other amenities similar to the main mobilisation camps, tlie latter are situated near the cities, where for soldiers on leave entertainments, amusements and hospitality patriotic club facilities are available. As a majority of the troops on short leave from Waiouru spend their leave in Taihape, it is necessary to make provision there for an appropriate building.”
