SPITFIRES’ SUPERIORITY ATTACKERS DRIVEN OFF BOMBING OF SHIPS (British Officinl Wireless.) Reed. 11.30 a.m. RUGBY, May 29. Squadrons of the Royal Fighter Command carried out an offensive sweep over the French coast yesterday, shooting down one of the latest German fighters, a Messerschmitt 109 F and damaging several more. rhe Messerschmitts were seen below the British fighters whose pilots report that the Spitfires were definitely superior to their foes. They returned without a bullet hole.

An Air Ministry communique states that Coastal, Command planes on escort duty yesterday drove off and damaged several enemy aircraft while they were attacking shipping. One of these was shot down into the sea by a Hudson plane after a spirited contest. Two British planes are missing.

The Bomber Command planes in daylight yesterday continued their search for enemy coastal shipping in the course of which a small supply ship was sighted and damaged. One British plane is mussing.

Last night, despite bad weather, a small force of the Bomber Command bombed objectives in north-west Germany. One plane is missing.
