SUPPLY COUNCIL
ESTABLISHED IN N.Z. ORDERS FOR FORCES CONTROL OF COMMODITIES (Per Preßß Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. The Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, announced to-day that the War Cabinet had authorised him to establish immediately a supply council and the functions of the council had been drafted to include the centralising of all orders for requirements of the armed forces, control of such commodities as may be needed for defence, responsibility for priorities in regard to defence supplies and also in regard to shipping-
In addition, the council was authorised to deal with possible economies and substitution in our present consumption and with the reclamation and utilisation of waste matter. The requisitioning or commandeering of supplies required for defence also would be a function of the council. Mr. Sullivan also announced that the following would, be the personnel of the council: —The Minister of Supply, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, chairman, Mr. B. C. Ashwin, secretary to the Treasury, Mr. D. A. Ewen, managing director of Saxgood, Son and Ewen; Mr. G. Jackson, managing director of the Ford Motor Company, all three of Wellington, and Mr. F. G. Young, president of the Auckland Trades Council. When the council is considering the matter of shipping priority, Mr. J. N. Greenland, manager of the Union Steam Ship Company, will be a full member of the council.
