AMERICANS’ CONDITION 400,000 MEN UNFIT (Reed. May 29. 11.50 a.m.) WASHINGTON. May 28. Brigadier-General Hershey. deputydirector of selective service, speaking at the national nutrition conference, said that Americans were in a physical condition of which nationally they should be thoroughly ashamed. Four hundred thousand of 1.000,000 men examined for service had been rejected as unfit. He said that America must be strong, but she cannot be when half her .sons are below standard.
