MAORI LEADER’S DEATH
The death has occurred of Tukumana Te Taniwha, head chief of the Ngati-Whanaunga tribe, at the age of 82, at Waimango. He was a grandson of the famous chief, Te Horeta Te Taniwha. One of the last surviving men versed in the ancient genealogy and history of his branch of the Hauraki Maoris, Tukumana Te Taniwha was also the Maori leader in the He helped in arranging for the transport of the carved meeting house, Hotunui, to be deposited in trust for the Thames tribes in the Auckland War Memorial Museum.
