GREYHOUND RACING
PAST MISTRESS RUNS WELL The Gisborne Greyhound Racing and Coursing Association conducted its first meeting on Saturday evening under the auspices of the North Island Greyhound Association. Good, fast racing was seen. The surprise of the meeting was the excellent running of Mrs. E. Hosier’s Past Mistress. This greyhound is imported from Australia and has the blood line of all the Australian and English champions, but, unfortunately, has steadfastly refused to chase the mechanical lure until recently. At the start of the special novice race she jumped to the front and led clearly for 400yds., only to be beaten by the fast-finishing King Minto. In the Limit race Observer once again showed his brilliancy by outpacing a good field.
Mrs. E. Hosier's Bonny Peter narrowly defeat’d Fast Passage in the Open race. During the evening Mr. N. Harvey gave his two puppies an educational gallop. From now on owners wishing to race their hounds must re-register them with the North Island Greyhound Association. A new ruling of the association is that all owners must obtain a rule book before nominating their hounds. Results:— Special Novice Race.—King Minto, 1 : Past Mistress, 2; Patches, 3. Won by half a length. Time, 29 3-ssee. Limit Race. —Observer, 1; Matrix, 2; Golden Streak, 3. Won by 2 lengths. Time, 28 4-ssec.
Open Race.—Bonnie Peter, 1 : Fast Passage, 2; Social Talk, 3. Won by half a length. Time, 23 3-5.
