NEW GERMICIDAL SPRAY CHECK TO INFECTION (Reed. March 1, 10.30 a.m.) CHICAGO, Feb. 28. A group of Chicago Uifiversity research physicians announce in the current issue of the magazine Science the discovery of a method of sterilising the air with an odourless and invisible germicidal mist, using a spray consisting of propylene and glycol. ' Its effectiveness is retained for an hour and a half. The new method promises a reduction in the spread of infections of the upper respiratory tract, pneumonia and the cpmmon cold.’ Dr. Bachmeyer, associate dean of the biological sciences division, said the mist would possibly be effective in air-raid shelters, barracks, sickrooms and crowded halls.
