MR. J. WOOD RETIRES COLLEAGUES’ FAREWELL I -,ppr Prows Association.’ WELLINGTON, this day. Mr. J. Wood, Under-Secretary and Engineer-in-Chief of the Public Works Department, who has just retired after 40 years with the department, was farewelled yesterday at a gathering at Government Buildings by members of his department and executives of other sections of the State service. Mrs. Wood was present. Speakers made particular reference to the fact that Mr. Wood had been chief officer of the department at a time when revolutionary changes were made in its working and when there was great public works activity, the responsibility for which had been his. There was a large and representative attendance, including the Minister of Public Works, the Hon. H. T. Armstrong.
