POWER SHUT-DOWNS
WAIROA DISCUSSION (Special to tiie Herald.) WAIROA, this day. The Wairoa Borough Council, at its monthly meeting, decided not to oppose any move on the part of the Wairoa Electric-Power Board to bring 'about earlier shut-downs on supply lines on Sundays so as to enable maintenance work to be carried out. Mr. M. J. Gemmell said that in his opinion the Public Works Department could shut down earlier on power lines than had been the case. On a recent occasion power, after a shut-down, had not been restored until 4.50 p.m. on a Sunday, and this had considerably inconvenienced dairy farmers in their milking sheds. He did not think the townspeople would mind if the power were shut off earlier.
The Mayor, Mr. H. L. Harker, said that earlier shut-downs would mean a little inconvenience, but he did not think the townspeople would object.
